easyJet cabin bag size: the free under-seat bag and the large bag
Amalia
The easyJet cabin bag size for the free bag is 45 x 36 x 20 cm, including handles and wheels. Every passenger can bring one small under-seat bag of that size, weighing up to 15kg, as long as they can lift it themselves. A large cabin bag of up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm, for the overhead locker, has to be booked or come with your fare.
If you are choosing a bag for the free allowance, our 45 x 36 x 20 cm underseat backpacks are sized within these measurements. The rules below were checked on easyJet's website on 5 November 2026.

What counts as the small under-seat bag?
easyJet's small under-seat bag can be a small trolley case, a handbag, a rucksack or a laptop bag, as long as it measures no more than 45 x 36 x 20 cm and fits under the seat in front of you. The maximum is two cabin bags per person: the small one for everyone, and the large one only if it is included or paid for.
So a handbag is not an extra. If you carry a handbag and a rucksack, the handbag goes inside the rucksack, or one of them needs to be the large cabin bag. easyJet also notes that a passenger automatically given an Up Front or Extra Legroom seat at check-in keeps an allowance of one small under-seat bag.
How do you get the large cabin bag?
The large easyJet cabin bag, up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm and 15kg, goes in the overhead locker. You can add one to your booking, and it comes with Speedy Boarding. easyJet says it is always cheaper to add it online than at the boarding gate, where it costs £60.
easyJet Plus members and passengers on an Inclusive Plus fare can also bring a large cabin bag. If a Plus member has not added one, or the passenger is on Inclusive Plus, it travels in the cabin subject to space; if there is none, easyJet places it in the hold.
What happens if your easyJet bag is too big?
easyJet checks cabin bag sizes before boarding. If the bag is bigger than the maximum, or you bring a large cabin bag without the right seat or a pre-booked bag, it goes in the aircraft hold and charges apply. The easyJet app (iOS only) has a camera tool to size your bag, but easyJet itself calls it a guide and recommends a tape measure.
Because handles and wheels count, a small trolley case loses several centimetres to its wheels. A soft bag has no such penalty, but it grows as you fill it, so measure it packed.
What this means for your bag
The free easyJet bag is noticeably more generous than Ryanair's 40 x 30 x 20 cm, according to Ryanair's website, checked 5 November 2026. We checked our own range against both sizes, using the dimensions listed on each product page on 5 November 2026. Of 197 bag models with all three dimensions listed, 180 sit within 45 x 36 x 20 cm, against 147 within the Ryanair size. Of those 180, 28 list a 15-inch laptop in what they fit, twice as many as for Ryanair.
In practice, that extra 5 cm of length and 6 cm of height lets a full-size work tote count as your free bag. The Cuneo, for example, is a soft vegan leather tote of 44 x 32 x 16 cm that fits a 15-inch laptop, a water bottle and A4 documents, with dual shoulder straps and a detachable crossbody strap. Worth knowing: at 44 cm it leaves only 1 cm of margin on length, and a soft bag bulges when full.
For a few days away rather than a working day, the Overnighter backpack measures 40 x 30 x 20 cm according to its product page, inside easyJet's free size and Ryanair's too. The page gives a 45-litre capacity using vacuum compression, a 16-inch laptop compartment, Oxford cloth construction and 3 to 5 days of outfits. Worth knowing: the 45 litres only fit once compressed, and the page does not say which side the 5 cm expansion adds to. If it is the depth, it would pass easyJet's 20 cm, so keep it closed for the flight.

What size is the easyJet free cabin bag?
The free easyJet cabin bag can measure up to 45 x 36 x 20 cm, including handles and wheels, and must fit under the seat in front of you. It can weigh up to 15kg, provided you can lift and carry it yourself. Every passenger gets one, whatever the fare, according to easyJet's website on 5 November 2026.
Does easyJet measure cabin bags?
Yes. easyJet says it checks cabin bag sizes before you board. A bag bigger than the maximum, or a large cabin bag brought without the right seat or a pre-booked allowance, goes in the hold and charges apply. Measuring the bag packed, with a tape measure, before you leave is the reliable test.
Is a rucksack a small cabin bag on easyJet?
A rucksack can be your small cabin bag on easyJet if it measures no more than 45 x 36 x 20 cm and fits under the seat in front. easyJet lists a rucksack, a handbag, a laptop bag and a small trolley case as examples. A larger rucksack belongs in the large cabin bag category.
Can I take a handbag and a cabin bag on easyJet?
Only if one of them is the large cabin bag. easyJet allows one small under-seat bag per person for free, and lists a handbag as an example of that bag. To carry both a handbag and a rucksack without paying, put the handbag inside the rucksack and keep the total within 45 x 36 x 20 cm.
In short
If you fly easyJet with one bag, you have 45 x 36 x 20 cm and 15kg to work with, which is room for a laptop tote or a weekend backpack. If you need the overhead locker, book the large bag online rather than at the gate. If you also fly Ryanair, pack to the smaller size: our guide to the Ryanair cabin bag size sets out its 40 x 30 x 20 cm rule.
