The 5 best work bags for women from our range, ranked
Amalia
The best work bag from our range, for most women, is the Genova: a vegan leather work bag that takes a 15.6-inch laptop, A4 documents and a water bottle, and carries on the shoulder or by hand. If your laptop is 13 inches and your days are tidy, the smaller Torino is the alternative, though a 13-inch MacBook Air (30.41 cm wide) leaves it only 0.6 cm on its 31 cm listed width.
This is a selection of our own bags, chosen from our women's work bags, so read it as exactly that: five bags we sell, ranked for the office, each with what it does well and what it does not.
How we chose
We went through the 28 models in our work bags collection on 4 November 2026. The criteria were the ones a working day actually tests:
- Laptop fit: the laptop size listed on the product page, checked against Apple's published MacBook dimensions.
- A4 and the rest: room for A4 documents, a water bottle and daily essentials, as listed on the product page.
- Carry: on the shoulder for the commute, by hand for the meeting.
- Depth: a slim bag looks sharper; a deeper one takes lunch.
Every measurement comes from our product pages. The selection was made by Amalia, the A&D editorial team. Nothing here was "tested" in a lab, and we say so.

| 1. Genova | Most office days | 15.6″ laptop, A4, water bottle | 45 × 18 × 28 | Vegan leather |
| 2. Catania | A slim commuter tote | 15″ laptop, A4, water bottle | 43 × 10 × 30 | Vegan leather |
| 3. Pavia | A handbag look with a laptop inside | 15″ laptop, A4, water bottle | 39 × 30 × 9 | Vegan leather |

The five work bags, ranked
1. The Genova: our top pick
The Genova is our top pick because it is the one bag here that takes a 15.6-inch laptop and still has depth left for the rest of the day.
- Dimensions: 45 × 18 × 28 cm.
- Fits: 15.6″ laptop, water bottle, A4 documents, daily essentials.
- Width margin: more than 9 cm beyond a 16-inch MacBook Pro (35.57 cm wide).
- Depth: 18 cm, the deepest of the five.
- Material: vegan leather, polyester lining.
- Carry: shoulder or handheld.
Best for: a full laptop, papers and lunch, five days a week.
Worth knowing: at 45 cm wide it is a large bag, and it looks it. The product page does not mention a zip, so do not count on one.
2. The Catania: the slim commuter tote
The Catania takes a 15-inch laptop in a tote only 10 cm deep, which keeps it flat against you on a crowded train.
- Dimensions: 43 × 10 × 30 cm.
- Fits: 15″ laptop, water bottle, A4 documents, daily essentials.
- Interior: spacious compartment with functional pockets.
- Material: vegan leather.
- Carry: handheld or shoulder.
Best for: the commute, when the bag has to be wide enough for a laptop and narrow enough for the aisle.
Worth knowing: 10 cm of depth goes quickly. A laptop, a bottle and a lunch box will compete for it.
3. The Pavia: a handbag with a laptop inside
The Pavia is the one to choose if you want a work bag that reads as a handbag, not a tote.
- Dimensions: 39 × 30 × 9 cm.
- Fits: 15″ laptop, water bottle, A4 documents, daily essentials.
- Material: vegan leather, polyester lining.
- Carry: by hand, according to the product page.
Best for: client meetings and offices with a smarter dress code.
Worth knowing: at 9 cm, the Pavia is the slimmest bag on this list. It is built for a laptop and papers, not for a gym kit.
4. The Torino: for a 13-inch laptop and a tidy day
The Torino is the compact choice, with an organised multi-pocket interior, as its product page puts it.
- Dimensions: 31 × 14 × 25 cm.
- Fits: 13″ laptop, wallet, A5 notebook, daily essentials.
- Interior: organised multi-pocket layout.
- Material: vegan leather, polyester lining.
- Carry: handheld or shoulder.
Best for: a 13-inch laptop and someone who likes everything in its place.
Worth knowing: the Torino is a 13-inch bag and nothing larger. A 13-inch MacBook Air is 30.41 cm wide, which leaves 0.6 cm on the bag's listed width (31 cm); a 14-inch MacBook Pro, at 31.26 cm, is wider than the bag. The product page lists an A5 notebook, not A4.
5. The Valletta: the genuine leather option
The Valletta is the only genuine leather bag on this list, inside and out.
- Dimensions: Big 35 × 11 × 27 cm; Small 29 × 10 × 21 cm.
- Fits: 13″ laptop, water bottle, A4 documents.
- Interior: slot pocket, phone pocket, zip pocket and an interior compartment.
- Material: genuine leather, exterior and lining.
- Carry: handheld or shoulder.
Best for: someone who wants real leather and carries a 13-inch laptop.
Worth knowing: the laptop needs the Big size. The Small is 29 cm wide, narrower than a 13-inch MacBook Air at 30.41 cm. Real leather also asks for more care than vegan leather when it rains.
How to choose a work bag
A work bag is chosen by the laptop first, then by the commute, then by the look. In that order, because a beautiful bag that does not close over the laptop is a beautiful problem.
Start with the laptop width
Find your laptop's width in centimetres on the manufacturer's page, then pick a bag that is wider. Apple lists a 13-inch MacBook Air at 30.41 cm wide and a 16-inch MacBook Pro at 35.57 cm, on Apple's MacBook Air specifications page and its MacBook Pro page (checked 4 November 2026). Our product pages do not say whether bag sizes are inside or outside measurements, so read a margin under a centimetre as tight.
Then think about depth
Depth decides what else comes with you. The Pavia (9 cm) and the Catania (10 cm) are slim and sharp; the Genova (18 cm) takes lunch and a bottle without a fight.
Then the carry and the material
If you walk or take the train, a bag that goes on the shoulder matters more than one that looks good on a desk. Four of the five list a shoulder carry on their product page; the Pavia is described as a hand-carry bag. Choose vegan leather for an easy everyday bag, or the Valletta if you want genuine leather.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best bag for work for a woman?
The best bag for work is the one that takes your laptop, A4 papers and a bottle and still sits on your shoulder. From our range, that is the Genova for a 15.6-inch laptop, and the Torino or the Valletta for a 13-inch laptop. Check your laptop's width before the colour.
What size work bag do I need for a laptop?
You need a work bag wider than your laptop's body, not its screen size. A 15-inch MacBook Air is 34.04 cm wide, so it needs a bag over 34 cm across, such as the Pavia (39 cm) or the Catania (43 cm). A 13-inch MacBook Air is 30.41 cm wide, so the Torino (31 cm) is a tight fit and the Valletta Big (35 cm) leaves more room.
Is a tote or a handbag better for the office?
A tote is better if you carry a lot, because the open shape takes a laptop and papers easily. A handbag shape is better for a smarter office and fewer things. The Pavia sits in between: a handbag shape that still takes a 15-inch laptop and A4 documents.
Do these work bags fit A4 documents?
Four of the five do, according to their product pages: the Genova, the Catania, the Pavia and the Valletta (Big size). The Torino lists an A5 notebook instead, so A4 folders are not what it was made for.
Our verdict
If you carry a 15-inch laptop and a full day, take the Genova. If the commute is tight, the Catania. If the office is smart, the Pavia. If your laptop is 13 inches, the Torino for organisation or the Valletta for genuine leather. And if you are still deciding between styles, our piece on the most professional style of bag covers the question from the other side.
